I saw this film last year at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre (now the art gallery

Art Auction for Kids Art Classes

There is a collection of wonderful artworks based on the theme 'space' hanging in the new My Gallery on Wyndham Street North at the back of what is better known as Wyndham Variety. Follow the footsteps from Wyndham Art Supplies to find the show.

There are over 50 pieces of art available in this silent auction, all of them using a 6" x 12" panel. Funds raised from the  A.C.E. auction will go to support art classes for kids.

A.C.E. was created to provide full and partial subsidies to families who wish to send their children to art classes and camps at the Guelph School of Art but who are unable to afford the full cost of the programs.

You can place bids on the works in person at My Gallery or online through the website here. The auction will wrap up in a party at Silence at 46 Essex St. Tickets for the party are $5 in advance at Wyndham Art Supplies and are limited.

Here are a few snaps of some of the work in the auction to entice you.

I also have a piece in the show but really they all look better in person and you can find them just a few steps from Wyndham Art Supplies.

Fourth Fridays printmaking demos at GSA

Last Friday evening I went up to the Guelph School of Art to visit with Pam and Lydia while they did their letter press and pronto plate demonstrations for Fourth Fridays. There was a good group of interested people, printing personal messages on festive coasters with the baby letter press and creating their own pronto plate cards on the baby etching press. Here are a few shots of the action and some of the things we made.
The demonstrations were an introduction to two workshops coming up soon. Pam Lobb will be teaching letter press on Sunday, December 8th and Lydia Nieuwenkamp will be teaching pronto plate on Sunday, December 15th. These are going to be popular workshops, so make sure you register soon. You can find all the information here.

Santa is coming to Guelph

Tomorrow Santa Claus is coming to Guelph in his annual parade through our lovely downtown. This year there have been some changes to who and what will accompany him in the celebrations and one of the new floats will feature Wyndham Art Supplies, Guelph School of Art, Creativity Greenhouse and Children's Art Factory.  Lots of exciting new things to see and hear on Sunday, starting at 1:30pm. Here is the link to the downtown board where you can find a map and more details.
Here are a few sneak peek photos of the float making in progress.
this is not the float but a snap of the store front with out the leaves on the tree. for comparison
figuring out how to attach all the bits and pieces
lots of work by lots of wonderful people and some very late nights in the warehouse

Maybe because this year we are participating in the parade I am more aware of what I have heard about parades in other cities.  Two very creative small communities keep coming up in conversations.
Elora has a well known and loved Santa Claus parade of lights on November 24th and I hear lots of praise for Bloomfield in Prince Edward County with their festival of lights on the 23rd.  Maybe this year Guelph can get a cheer and perhaps more of our talented city will be inspired to get involved next year.
