Buy Some Damn Art!

'Buy Some Damn Art!' is the name of an online gallery, created and curated by Kate Singleton of Art Hound. I have come across articles of hers over the last couple of years online and liked her fresh approach to the art/ online thing.
This coming Tuesday (March 19th 2013) a selection of my work will be launched on the BSDA site.  I am excited about the showing. I have never had an online show of my work before... will be interesting.  I do enjoy many of the artists that Kate has chosen for her online gallery as well as the short interview attached to each artist.
The work on Buy Some Damn Art! are mostly smaller works that are easy to ship as well as affordable. It just happened that I was working on a series of smaller mixed print, chine collé monoprints that Kate liked.
Here are a few shots of the works in progress and a couple of finished pieces from the series.  If you want you can subscribe to her newletter via the website.
These photos are just teasers as I don't really want to show the works before the launch. Let me know what you think on Tuesday!

super long etching day

Phew. Finally one long day where everything worked out for etching a new print/ 12 plates. The plates were all clean and polished, the sun was shining, my schedule was free for whole day and no one was minding me taking over the common areas on the top floor.

I use white transfer paper to get my sketches onto the plates, then paint ground onto the negative space.

kind like how the plates look with the lovely polished copper showing
through the ground painted on

all the plates are ready to go and it is getting dark... maybe it is only 4:30pm though

hallway elevator area where I can set up the spraypainting (aquatint) that I
do in many layers to build up the dark areas

a couple of test prints

lovely clean plates all ready to go

and this is a taped up test of the final print. now for the big press and
lots of help with the chine colle

Work In Progress

Just some shots in the studio of works in progress.  Lots of taking things apart right now, rearranging pieces and then putting them back together in a new composition.  Having fun again and getting itchy to wipe some plates soon...

Printing at Catch-23

After my big press break I was a bit stressed about how I was going to do all the printing for my upcoming show at Renann Isaacs Contemporary Art.  Thankfully, Ryan Price at Catch-23 offered me the use of his press and studio to print some of the plates that I had all ready to go. This space was my old studio quite a long time ago and it was a bit funny working in there at first but then once things got going was very nice.  Lots of good memories and great to have a bit of time to look at some of Ryan's wonderful drypoints and drawings. I am posting a few photos (which don't do his work justice) but you should look up his work.  The studio is also home to Ryan and Nadine's custom framing, Catch-23 and they do beautiful work.
