Guelph Jazz Festival artist in residence

Jeff Schlanger is the artist in residence this year for the Guelph Jazz Festival and he will be working in my studio. Here is a link with some info about Jeff and a little bit more here with some images of his work. Jeff will be working on some paintings during the evening main performances and then will take the work to the studio to dry and possibly work on later.
I am looking forward to meeting Jeff and seeing what he is up to. Hopefully, I have made a good working space for him in my studio and that he will be comfortable while he is in Guelph. Not sure if our musical tastes will be similar but I am willing to listen to what is inspiring him for this body of work during his residency.

Nuit Blanche

The Guelph Jazz Festival has been presenting Nuit Blanche in Guelph the past few years as part of their festival programming.  This year, my son and I took a wander to check out some of the early events. In my neighbour's studio, the Guelph Pen Club was doing a group drawing with musical accompaniment.  It was a great action drawing event to take in and lucky for us, we got to go back in the morning and check out the finished work. 

Apparently, there was a group of argumentative revellers in the wee hours that were kindly asked to leave but did not take it very well. I am curious if they had anything to do with the new hole in the stairwell wall...

GUH and Microcosmos tonight!

In Guelph this weekend the Jazz Festival is in full swing all over the downtown.

Tonight I am especially excited about because it is the Jazz Festival's nuit blanche

starting at 7pm and running until 7am tomorrow morning.  There are so many

wonderful things to see and hear and do that I cannot list them all but have 

added the link to the schedule.  Tonight at 12:30am, GUH will be playing

at the Bookshelf cinema music inspired by the film 'Microcosmos'.  The 

award winning magical film will be playing during the show.  Love this 

film and love GUH, a wonderful pairing.

a visit to the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre

Yesterday, Pam and I went up to the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre to drop off work for the Framed auction.  The gallery was getting ready for the kick off of the Guelph Jazz Festival but had a moment to ooh and ah over the work that has been coming in for the auction.  The work I had submitted is a new piece that I have not yet shown and is titled, 'falling roses'.  I will post more details about the auction as it gets a bit closer, it is in November.

While we were there, we popped into the Art Sales and Rental gallery and checked out the fresh new look and took a few photos.  This is a photo of one of my mixed media works on canvas (mainly etching) and on the red wall, a work by my husband, Chris Ahlers.

Before heading out, director Judith Nasby took us in to a new installation to see an absolutely beautiful new collaborative piece by Jessica Steinhauser and Ryan Price.  Jessica is a local potter who has been making ceramic ovens and stoves for a few years now in addition to her wonderful pots.  Ryan Price is a local artist (printmaker!) who created the image on the furnace, drawing directly on the clay tiles. I think the combination of talents works well in this project.
